Join us President’s Day weekend in February for the Winter Escape Youth Convention and Fine Arts Festival.

It's all about youth discovering, developing, and deploying their gifts for the cause of Christ. Students from across the state can bring their talents and participate in preaching, drama, music, writing, and more during the Fine Arts portion of the weekend. Participants will also be part of two sessions featuring a special speaker Joe Donnell and worship band from Trinity Bible College.

Final AIM update

We are sitting at the gate in the El Salvador airport waiting to board for Dallas. The team enjoyed a relaxing day at Atami beach yesterday and a memorable farewell service with missionaries Don and Terri Triplett and our national team. We are sad to leave but excited to return home. The trip does not end here as we are ready to put into action what we've learned and build on what God has done in our lives.

Please pray for nearly 5,000 all of the kids and youth and adults that we saw during our week of ministry, 500 of them made decisions to follow Christ. And thank you for praying for our long travel day home.

Tuesday AM El Salvador Update

We have enjoyed two more great days of ministry! One grandmother's sight improved after the team prayed for her on Sunday night. An eleven year old boy with no father has a new pair of shoes because some guys on the team pooled their money and showed compassion. Numerous children and youth have come to Christ at schools and on the streets at various ministry programs. We are extremely blessed to be part of what God is doing here!

We're about to hop on the bus this morning for our final day of ministry. God has been so good to this team. We have been stretched, grown together, and our hearts are full of great victories and testimonies.The team is in good health and good spirits. We are ready to finish strong!

Please pray for our final day of ministry, our free day tomorrow, and our travel day on Thursday.

Ministry Day One

Today we started our six days of ministry. We are working on the cities of Apopa and Wasapa near San Salvador. We ministered in a school in the morning with the primary grades and the afternoon with the secondary grades and finished with a neighborhood program. The kids were excited to see "Americanos" and get out of class for some basketball and a little fun. Many lives were touched; it is great to see how God uses a sport to break down barriers and cause children to be receptive to the gospel. The teacher who helped us get in the school is a believer from a local church who disciples children from the school who commit their lives to Christ.

We have started well and look forward to many more opportunities to love kids in the next five days. Thank you for praying. We sense His hand upon us and we're powerless without Him.

Wednesday AIM update

Today was a great day of orientation, training, a swim in the lake, and prayer as we get set to head out for our first day of ministry tomorrow. We learned four brand new dances and four ministry dramas for the programs we'll be sharing in schools and neighborhoods over the next six days. The basketball team is also prepped and ready to show off their skills and teach kids how to play.

The day concluded with a time prayer and intercession at the King's Castle Prayer Fortress where a vigil of prayer and fasting has been going on continuously for the last 12 years. We were reminded that one hug, one smile, one prayer, could alter the eternity of a Salvadoran child. We are ready to make a difference and see the miraculous!

Everyone is in good health and spirits are high as we look forward to what God will do. Thank you for continuing to pray.

We're here!

After an early and rainy start in Sioux Falls...and about 10 hours on two buses and two planes, we've arrived at the King's Castle* training center in El Salvador safely and smoothly.

The team is in good spirits and looking forward to a great night of rest and full day of training tomorrow. Thank you for praying for this leg of the journey. Please continue to pray as we adjust to new surroundings and learn our ministry songs and dramas tomorrow. Pray that we will be unified, eager to serve, and empowered to share the love of Christ so that hearts and lives would be transformed.

New Girls Ministries Coordinator Announced

We are pleased to introduce Diana Kjerstad as the new district Girls' Ministries coordinator. Please take a moment to get to know the heart and vision of this enthusiastic leader.

She writes: "I was born in southern Indiana but grew up in Sisseton, SD as a 'home missions' pastor's kid. South Dakota has been my home since I was in the 5th grade. Youth conventions and summer camps where a big part of my life. I met my husband at summer camp and we got married in 1997. We youth pastored in North Dakota and Minnesota and then moved to Mitchell, SD and took the Sr. Pastor position and have been there for the past 6 years.

I started Girl's Ministries the first year we were here with Rainbows and every year we added the next class. This past year we just started the Stars program and we now have all four Girl's Ministries programs going. I love getting a chance to see the girls grow mentally and spiritually. This is a wonderful mentorship and discipleship program that all girls should have an opportunity to experience.

On the district level, I want to help develop the Girl's Ministries program in churches; coming up with innovative ideas to make it work best for your situation is something I look forward to doing. I am excited to see what God is going to do in our SD Girl's Ministries!"

Pentecostal Evangel-Kids Edition

Summer Camp

Hopefully you've noticed that the weather is getting nicer where you live (unless you live in northeast SD) and the greatest weeks of the year...SUMMER CAMP!..will be soon upon us. This is a quick update to answer questions about camp as we are getting into the camp planning season.

The district camp site, www.sdsummercamp.com is being renovated. Our goal is to have it up and running by mid March. Until then you can find dates, information, and registration forms at www.sdyce.com. Just click on the summer camp tab at the top of the page.

Once we have the site up and running families will be able to register and pay online, but they will still need to turned a signed form into their local church. The deadline for the $55 pre-registation rate is April 15th.

Your church will also receive camp info, group registration forms, posters and postcards in the mail.

Growing 3-2-1

At our recent Momentum youth leader's retreat, two themes emerged during the times of networking and discussion...making disciples and building community.

It started as Supt. Schaible shared his perspective on what we are doing well in youth ministry and where we are falling short. We're doing a good job of being on the cutting edge and creating environments that students want to be part of. But we were challenged with a question: Can you clearly and succinctly describe how you are making disciples in your ministry?

The answer to this question more often than not is no. Throughout the weekend great insights were shared and we came away with a renewed desire to reach students and make disciples. We closed the retreat with a challenge: "3 books, 2 students, 1 leader."

What could happen across our district if over the next six months we each:

Read 3 Books...any topic. A book of the Bible? Intentional, personal growth. Leaders are readers.

Build 2 Students...prayerfully chosen. Intentionally discipled. Meet regularly. Pour into young lives; do life together. Ask hard questions. Raise the level of expectation.

Train 1 Leader...reproduce yourself. Empower and release for ministry. Consider asking a parent. Give ministry away. Your next great ministry leader is waiting to be discovered.

What could happen if we grew personally and intentionally got involved in three lives in the next 6 months? Maybe you already have a process...great. If not, this is a starting point.

Go for it! Share your experiences and encourage others.

Let's build the Kingdom together!

Growth Curriculum

So 2011 is here whether you are ready for it or not. You spent all of 2010. It's gone. Now what? Will you allow 2011 to be a repeat of 2010? Will you repeat the cycle of life and ministry once more? Or will you chose to make 2011 different? Will you put your foot down and shout from the rooftops, "This Year Will Be Different! Because, This Year I Will Grow!"

That's right the start to a new begins simply by making a commitment to growth.

Stop right now and process the following questions:

What ministry area would I like to grow in this year? Preaching skills, time management, implementing strategies, leading exciting and engaging meetings, etc.

What personal area would I like to grow in this year? Improve my parenting skills, become a better spouse, take control of our finances, how to stop paying others for auto maintenance, a foreign language, etc

What areas can you grow with your team? Child and youth development milestones, leading change, etc.

Simply select one topic from each area above and then choose three or four books on that topic. Force yourself to limit your learning to a few areas but read several books from different authors. This will give you a steady diet of input from different perspectives so you don't get off course too far.

Take about 30 minutes today and get started. If you don't you'll find yourself right back here on December 21, 2011 having completed the same cycle one more time.

Farewell and Merry Christmas

Today will be my last day in the office of South Dakota DYD before we transition to Springfield, MO. Our offices will be closed from the 24th of December and will reopen on January 3rd.

To all of our South Dakota friends; thank you for the 14 years of ministry together. We have loved all of you dearly and though we won't see you as often, you will always remain in our hearts.

To the youth and children's pastors in SD. Your hard work and team spirit were a huge part of what made our time with you so enjoyable. I never heard anyone say "it can't be done" or "we're just too small." You are champions who proved nothing can stand in our way - or "With God, all things are possible."

To the SDAG Presbyters, you are fantastic leaders. I have been overwhelmed at times by the amount of grace and support you have shown to me. The direction you are going by involving our younger ministers in different leadership capacities assures that the SDAG will remain relevant. I love the fact that you've planned far enough ahead to invest in those who will take over your role one day. Thanks for investing!

To the Schaibles. I don't know why God allowed us to find such great leaders, mentors, and friends so early in ministry but we are thankful He did. You have been patient and given me opportunities to try new things without knowing whether or not a crazy idea would succeed or fail. You have been, and will continue to be a great friend in ministry. I'll never forget my pheasant hunting excursion with you and Brian Peterson (no details needed). Rachel, your love for us and investment into our boys has been significant. Thanks for being willing to watch them so we could have a date every now and then. You are truly our extended family and will be missed.

To Pastor David and Jenn. During our training session you mentioned how you felt you were being handed the keys to a very expensive car as you took over the role as SDYCE Director. From where I sit it feels like you've been investing in this ride from the beginning and giving me the credit for the work that you and the rest of the team put in. I know you will handle this "ride" with care and ensure that the no passenger gets left behind. SD Youth and CE ministries are in good hands with you at the wheel. May God pour out on you a double portion of His Spirit!

Though we are closing this chapter of our ministry we will always look back with fond memories of the 14 years we spent with some of the greatest people on the planet.

James’ passion for Rangers extends well beyond merits and camping. He uses Royal Rangers as a tool to mentor future men. His vision is to see our churches excel in reaching the boys inside and outside the church walls through motivating men/dads in the church to pour into the boys.

James is a veterinarian by trade and loves the outdoors. Gideon's BGMC Story

I am the mother of three-year-old Gideon. If you ask him, "Why do we raise money for BGMC?" he will respond, "It goes to help people know Jesus, because I already know Jesus."

The amazing thing is that Gideon has raised $1,600 in his short life and is still going strong. Hopefully this will inspire others to give to BGMC as well.

As the children's pastor at First Assembly of God in Aberdeen, South Dakota, I had challenged my students to raise as much money as they could this year. So I wanted to do my part as well. This past spring, Gideon and I went door-to-door selling pizza coupons. He had his own sales pitch and sold the coupons all by himself. He was awesome! Gideon raised $900 in about 10 days.

What a testimony to what God can do through the very young!

Going door-to-door also gave Gideon and I the opportunity to talk to people about Jesus. But Gideon's story doesn't stop here. By the time we finished selling pizza cards, Gideon had raised another $300, totaling $1,200 for BGMC.

Throughout the summer, Gideon and I began noticing lost change almost everywhere we went. "Lost Change for Lost Souls," we would say when we found money. Then we would thank Jesus right on the spot that we found it.

We would pray that God would help us find as much lost change as we could. One day when we went to church, I found a dollar bill on the ground beside the building. I said to my husband, "Look! I found a dollar!" At that Gideon came running to me and said, "I found one too!"

God has blessed our search for lost change. Over the course of time, Gideon found over $20 in loose change-under clothes dryers, on parking lots, and in mom's purse and dad's pockets. We even had grandma and grandpa looking for lost change. Hopefully now you will be on the lookout for lost change too.

After a while, we gave selling coupons a rest. When fall rolled around, Gideon asked me, "Are we going to sell anymore pizza cards?" I didn't even imagine he thought about that anymore. So we ordered in more coupons, and Gideon sold another $100 worth of coupons.

Another fund-raiser our church did was selling coffee. Gideon himself raised almost $300 selling coffee!

Recently while riding in the car, Gideon thanked God for the money he had given to BGMC, and he was asking God to help him raise more money. Even though Gideon is just a little boy, he's a hard worker. His child faith keeps me going!

I hope our story can encourage and challenge you and others to give to BGMC. Be encouraged that no matter how young you may be, a willing heart God will use!

A STL Ironman Effort...

Michelle Golovine, a fire fighter and part-time police officer suffered from a heart condition that threatened her career. Believing that God had healed her she began training for an Ironman Triathlon.

From getting up at 3:00 am to training 20 hours as week, this mom of two and public servant shows what true sacrifice is all about.

Transition...

On Friday, December 10, after much prayer and consideration, Jennifer and I accepted the invitation of Supt. Schaible and the district presbytery to become the next Youth and Christian Education Directors for the South Dakota Assemblies of God. We will fill the unexpired term of Mark and Christie Entzminger who will be transitioning to National Children's Ministries at AG headquarters in Springfield, MO.

Throughout the last few weeks, God has confirmed in numerous ways that this is the next place of ministry for us. It will be extremely difficult to say farewell to the church family, youth, friends, and ministry colleagues that we've come to know and love for the last seven years here at First Assembly in Aberdeen. While change and transition is not always easy, we simply want to be obedient to God's direction; we are excited for what the future holds.

The exact transition date is to be determined, but will likely take place near late January. Thank you for the outpouring of love and support that has come since the announcement was made yesterday. So many have prayed for us and supported us in this process and I can't begin to explain how God has used you. We appreciate your prayers more than anything. Please pray for the next youth pastor that God has for Aberdeen First Assembly; the best is yet to come for youth and families here!

Thank you Mark and Christie Entzminger for serving as the YCE directors for the past eight years with such excellence, care, and compassion. You will be missed greatly; and we consider ourselves extremely fortunate to follow the course your leadership as charted for South Dakota. We are excited to have the opportunity to resource, equip and work with pastors, churches, and leaders from across this great state to impact many lives for the cause of Christ!

New DYDs Announced

It is an honor to introduce you to the new South Dakota Assemblies of God Youth and Christian Education Directors. David and Jen Bauchpiess have served as youth pastors at First Assembly of God in Aberdeen, SD. They have been an integral part of the team of youth leaders for several years and bring a great focus and attention to detail.

Pastor David was invited to assume the role of YCE Director late last week by Superintendent Schaible with the approval of the District Presbyters.

David and Jen are both graduates of Trinity Bible College and grew up in South Dakota. They have three children; Allison, Aleyah, Ethan.

Please be sure to send your welcome and congratulations to them at an appropriate time.

We officially had to cancel the race because the weather dropped below 30 degrees. Yet at 24 degrees we had 13 runners unofficially complete the course. Each racer received a AWD5k Medallion upon completion of the race.

Over $1,300 was raised for Speed The Light through the race.

Liberia, a small country in West Africa, has been devastated by years of war. A tenuous peace was established in 2006, and the country is slowly recovering from decades of civil war. The Assemblies of God in Liberia has also been hard hit by this devastation. Now they are in slow process of rebuilding in every area of ministry, and the needs are too numerous to mention.

This is also the reality in the area of children’s ministries. Even churches that were doing their best to reach children before the war started have lost everything. One of the requests that missionaries Devane and Mary McGee have received is for a few basic supplies to replace what was lost during the unrest. Specifically, the churches have asked for a few puppets and flannelgraphs. You can make a huge impact in the lives of Liberian children with a donation of your new, used, or unused children’s ministries materials.

In an environment with no TV, video games, music, or even many toys, a simple puppet can captivate an audience of hundreds of African children better than the latest animated adventure from Hollywood can capture the attention of our own kids. Please give new life to your used puppets and flannels and help bring eternal life to the hurting children of Liberia.

2011 Year of the Child

The year 2011 has been declared “Year of the Child” by Assemblies of God World Missions in an effort to implement new and enhanced efforts to reach children with the Gospel message of Jesus Christ and to minister to their needs. It is fitting that the current AGWM theme is “Every Generation.” The YOTC theme, “No Child Without,” is the hallmark of this endeavor; the goal is to see no child without Christ or without the essentials of life.

Each region of the world is working with national churches, raising awareness of the child, looking together at ways to meet the needs of the whole child and working to make resources and training for children’s ministry accessible to local churches everywhere. Emphasis is placed on including the child in any planning for all aspects of national and local church life. For instance, when a new church is erected for a congregation, plans should include space for children’s ministry; Bible school curriculums should include training for children’s ministry.

AGWM seeks to coordinate children’s ministry efforts, discovering what is already being done to reach children and determining how all parties can network and take this work to the next level.

AGWM recognizes that how children’s ministry will be done in each region, in each country, will be unique to the local culture and the specific needs of children in that context.

Funding of special projects will be done through Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge (BGMC), with a special “Year of the Child” offering being taken in May 2011. These projects will range from Sunday school and other discipleship materials to meeting physical and basic healthcare needs of children.

We did the one month challenge that has now truned into the one year challenge. One student in particular started it 2 days before we started it as a group without realizing it. In the one month timeframe, I told him to keep track of how many conversations it starts and at the end of the month, he had 83 conversations that were started about God just because he carried his bible at school!!

It features a great way to interact with the students, cover relevant topics to the teens present that night, use technology they are into, and create a safe environment for interaction.

Our "Living Room" sessions.

They're a part of our current series "reaLife" based on the movie "To Save A Life." Every three weeks we have a Q&A session for the students to ask questions. We have four ways for them to ask questions. They can e-mail the Soul'd Out e-mail address, they can send a facebook message to the Soul'd Out FB page, and then 2 way of asking them anomyously. They can write their question down and stick it in "the vault" (which is a tote with padlocks on it with a hole in the top), or they can send a txt message live to the Soul'd Out phone. I got a pre-paid cell phone for $20 and an unlimited txt plan for $20/mo. We don't have any numbers programed in so we don't know who they are. You wouldn't believe the questions we get from the students. This has been an awesome way for them to open up and ask what's really on their heart privately but publically. It's been really good for the students to hear what eachother are going through too.

This year, fewer than 40% of voting age Americans will actually vote.

A serious glitch in self-marketing, I think.

If you don't vote because you're trying to teach politicians a lesson, you're tragically misguided in your strategy. The very politicians you're trying to send a message to don't want you to vote. Since 1960, voting turnouts in mid-term elections are down significantly, and there's one reason: because of TV advertising.

Political TV advertising is designed to do only one thing: suppress the turnout of the opponent's supporters. If the TV ads can turn you off enough not to vote ("they're all bums") then their strategy has succeeded.

The astonishing thing is that voters haven't figured this out. As the scumminess and nastiness of campaigning and governing has escalated and the flakiness of candidates appears to have escalated as well, we've largely abdicated the high ground and permitted selfish partisans on both sides to hijack the system.

Voting is free. It's fairly fast. It doesn't make you responsible for the outcome, but it sure has an impact on what we have to live with going forward. The only thing that would make it better is free snacks.

Even if you're disgusted, vote. Vote for your least unfavorite choice. But go vote.

BGMC On Track for a Banner Year

Hello children's leaders!

I'm over in Africa seeing first hand some of the impact that BGMC is having around the world.

Do you remember those water wells from a couple years ago? I've been able to see how those water wells are directly affecting the local communities. I know you were all raising funds diligently for those needs. Thanks for that.

I've also seen the church buildings BGMC helped to rebuild after some tribal clashes in 2008. What a great thing to be a part of! You've provided hope to these people.

We are currently sitting at $42,424.00 for the year. I truly feel we are positioned to hit and eclipse our $65,000 goal which will make me take the Polar Plunge in January. If we keep in mind that BGMC doesn't happen by itself, but by combining 1 passionate leader, 2 well-prepared minutes each week, and 3-month goals, we can take BGMC over $75,000 or more!

Africa Update

Saturday afternoon I boarded a plane for a trip to Africa to minister to children and see how BGMC is helping people specifically in the country of Kenya. I arrived Sunday evening where I joined up with David and Mary Boyd (National BGMC Directors) and Jay and Debbie Risner (Children's Missionary Evangelists).

Monday we met up with two Kenyan children's pastors and did two elementary school assemblies. Jay and David did the presentation of story, music, illusions, and the Gospel presentations to two welcome crowds of kids. Most were between 6 and 13 years of age. The first school had about 2,000 students, the second about 250. Tuesday was similar but with only one school. This school also had about 2,000 students.

You should see the looks on the faces of these kids as we interact with them. The love, joy, and warmth of these people is amazing!

Wednesday started very early. 4:00 AM we took our van to the airport where we boarded a small plane for the city of Eldoret. We met up with the pastoral leader for that area who took us on a tour of a few churches that had been burned in tribal fights in early 2008.

During this tour we stopped at a location where one of our AG churches used to stand. In it's place was 38 graves and cross headstones. Some of the local resident farmers came up to us and began to tell their stories. Though each individual story should be told, I'll only include this short summary here.

On January 1, 2008 a neighboring tribe attacked, apparently over land disputes. Outnumbered in some places by 10-1, the people fought and fled. Many fled to the churches hoping for refuge. Instead, the tribe barred the doors, covered the churches in fuel, and lit it on fire killing everyone inside.

This story was repeated all across the country side. Many churches were attacked (not just Assemblies of God), and many lost their life. One gentleman showed me his scars on his head where he had been struck and spent a month in the hospital. Another was riding a bike powered by his arms instead of his legs because he lost his legs in the battle.

Later we toured two other locations where churches, homes, and lives were destroyed in this warfare. Yet in the wake of this tragedy the children and churches in America responded by sending money to help rebuild these churches. Though the churches are rough by American standards, it is a place of worship and hope for the people in those tiny villages.

We met pastors and church people who's smiles and joy show their complete dependence on the Lord. It was there we found the evidence that where the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, Jesus brings life and life abundantly (John 10:10).

We are so thankful for the help we were able to give to these people during their time of need and know this is how the body of Christ is supposed to function.

Fun & Trivial
- Food: I've eaten some amazing desserts and exotic foods; osterich, and crocodile
- Running: I met a Kenyan marathon runner who ran a half marathon (13.1 miles) in 61 minutes. It takes me about 150 minutes. I am simply a poser!
- Golf: We took in 9 holes during a free afternoon. The course was amazing, monkeys, scenery, caddies, the works.
- I've sunburned my head. Did you know the sun's rays are stronger here?
- I've missed my wife and boys every single day!

Encourage your Campus Missionaries with this inspiring story from Michael of Clark, SD. This was Michaels second report for September. The first stated he was meeting with school leadership about starting a Bible club. The following was his report after that meeting. It has been shared with his permission.

"I really wanted to make another report for this month. We had our first Bible study club meeting yester, now known as Army of Youth. We are opening up examining the Book of Acts. On next Wednesday we will have a group discussion on everyone's thoughts and ideas of the book of Acts. And I will then ask the group of why they think I decided to open with the Book of Acts. I have made plans for the next four weeks. Like I said for the first week we are doing the Book of Acts. The second week we are going over The Book of Ephesians all the way through the Book of Philemon. For our third week we are going over Romans through 1 Corinthians. And for our fourth week we will go over 2 Corinthians through Galatians. I chose to open the group up with the Book of Acts because it is a good source to show that you shouldn't hide your faith and that "You Belong" in the group of Jesus Christ. And that if you make the decision to either have little to no faith or if you choose to hide your faith, there will be consequences. With week two through four you probably notice I chose for us to go over the letters that Deciple Paul wrote. I chose to do this because they are good representations of teen issues; family issues, leadership, Faith, relationship, and much more of the many problems in a teens life. Last night at youth group and as well as at the Bible study yesterday morning, I brought up the 1 month challenge and many people were interested in joining me in doing it. We are going to start next Tuesday and we are really excited about doing it. Also at youth group last night, an idea that I had during math class, I brought in a large jar with change that I collected from my room and the 6 dollars in cash that I had in my pocket. The idea that I had was for all of us to start throwing any change that we have that we don't need and then in a couple months or so, we will count it up and send it to the Food for the Hungry. I can't wait to see how all this plays out. I am really excited. God Bless Everyone, Michael"

John Hicks is the National Royal Rangers Communications Coordinator. John joined the national office team in June of 2005. Before coming to Springfield, John served as the Arkansas District Training Coordinator for seven years. He also served as a sectional commander, area commander, and district buckaroo/straight arrow coordinator in the Arkansas and Southern Missouri districts.
John was born and raised in the Springfield, MO area and is a graduate of Missouri State University. In 1993, he moved to Arkansas to accept a position at Hillcrest Children’s Home where he worked for twelve years as an accountant, office manager, and case manager.

John has been involved in Royal Rangers since he was seven years old. He joined FCF in 1981 and earned the Trail Ranger Woods Master rating that same year. He has served as a local outpost leader for over twenty years. He and his wife, Amanda, served as children’s pastors at Lakeview Assembly of God in Hot Springs, AR for six years where they attended with their four children: Nate, Abbie, Sarah, and Caleb.

We are excited to have John as one of our workshop speakers at Calibrate 2010.

Royal Ranger Pow Wow Gallery

The Royal Ranger Pow Wow was a huge hit! I'll admit, I felt like a fish out of water, but it was a great learning experience and all the commanders really helped me out.

It was great to see Godly men spending time with their boys shaping, teaching, praying for, and mentoring them.

Some of the activities included: Archery, blowgun, bb gun, water balloon launch, paint ball target shoot, fire building/string burn, egg cook, and more.

Over the weekend we talked about Slaying our giants. Here's how what we covered.

1. Perfect Practice Makes Perfect - we need to practice doing the right thing and follow Jesus.
2. Trophies - Don't forget about the giants we have eliminated in our life.
3. My Giant is Bigger - there is a great way to defeat the giants in our life, enlist a bigger giant. We have the biggest Giant of them all - God.
4. Inspire Others - when we slay our giants we inspire others to defeat theirs as well.

Based in River of Life Church out of Cold Spring, MN, Heartland Master's Commission is focused on raising up the next generation of leaders ready for small town ministry.

Directors Adam and Amber Haugen have a passion for small town ministry and a desire to disciple the next generation to reach this vast mission field. Adam served on the leadership team at Cross Current in Rocford, IL under Jeanne Mayo and Jeremy DeWeerdt before receiving his BA in business form Souther Illinois Univerity. In 2004 he moved to Cold Spring and began working with Breakthrough Ministries. Amber received her MA from St. Cloud State University after finishing three years of service with Rockford Master's Commission. Amber began working at River of Life Church in 2003. The couple married in 2005 and have one son (Mataeo).

Memorization Resource

Psalm 119:11 tells us to "hide the Word in our heart" in order to avoid sin. Unfortunately in many of our churches today people are not challenged to even bring their Bible with them let alone read or memorize it.

I would like to challenge your children and teens to memorize God's Word this school year. Not the whole thing - but facts about Gods Word, verses, chapters or entire books of the Bible. It can be done!

Studies show that what kids and teens memorize stay with them later in life as well. Additionally, it has been said that kids who learn how to memorize are able to increase their school grades as well. More importantly, kids involved in Bible Quiz are more likely to make the faith of their parents their own which will help them stay true to their beliefs into their adult years.

He also a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “I tell you the truth”, he said, “This poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”

Illustrate: "In Other Words," a publication of the Wycliffe Bible Translators, recently told a story about Sadie Sieker, who served for many years as a house-parent for missionaries' children in the Philippines. Sadie loved books. Though she gladly loaned out some, others she treasured in a footlocker under her bed. Once, in the quiet of the night, Sadie heard a faint gnawing sound. After searching all around her room, she discovered that the noise was coming from her footlocker. When she opened it, she found nothing but an enormous pile of dust. All the books she had kept to herself had been lost to termites. What we give away, we keep. What we hoard, we lose.

Challenge/Connection: Larry Pennings once said, “God judges what we give by what we keep. “ For Sadie, it would have been better if she would have loaned out all of her books, and not kept some just for herself. Then none of them would have been destroyed. In the same way, the story of the widow relates. The rich men gave out of their riches and kept plenty for themselves. But the widow gave everything that she had, and Jesus was much more pleased with her.

If we give everything that we have to God, we will never be sorry. Many times it is easy to keep things for ourselves, and feel ok because we gave a little to God. But when we give him everything and hold nothing back, we will find true satisfaction. He will provide for us and bless us no matter. As Martin Luther King once said “I have tried to keep things in my hands and lost them all, but what I have given into God's hands I still possess.”

Ryan is the National Young Adult Ministry Coordinator for the AG. Ryan moved to Springfield, MO in March of ’09 in an effort to equip and encourage existing and potential young adult ministries throughout our national network.

Ryan has ministered to young adults in both Florida and Oregon. He spent 3 years in Ocala, Florida serving full-time to youth and young adults before moving across the country in May of ‘06 to pastor young adults in Portland, Oregon.

His passion is to help develop emerging leaders and propel them into their God-given destiny. He also enjoys a good book, a cup of coffee, and game to watch on TV. Ryan is married to the love of his life and best friend, Alyson and they have one 3 year old girl, Alyza.

It's not a joke. Sometimes you sleep funny, wake up tired and feel cranky all day. No comic timing required.

Do you ever work funny?

Ever have a day when none of the things you need to focus on materialize, when the emotional labor doesn't come naturally?

Most of us have come up with a strategy for days we're working funny--we do the busy work, we reply, react and occasionally respond. We show up at the meetings and we answer our email, and we go home feeling as though we accomplished at least a little something (though we didn't.)

The danger is this: this working funny habit leaks into the days when we're on our game. When you're on a roll, you still find yourself going to meetings, answering email and working through someone else's to-do list. That's a waste.

Don't toss and turn if you don't have to.

No matter how you spell it 10/10/10 is going to be a Sunday to remember!

In cooperation with the national STL office and youth ministries around the nation we are casting the net to challenge our students to do something unprecedented.

I am looking for 100 people who will set a crazy goal to personally give/raise $1,000 and give it on October 10th, 2010 (or other date close to that if your Sunday mornings make this difficult).

I know that some of our teenagers are just the people who would step up to this challenge and watch God help them make this goal. To sign up click here.

You will never receive a bill but this will help us to announce how many people are on board with Ten and then to celebrate with you as was watch God bring it in as each person works hard.

Here's the great news... there are already 3 SDAG leaders on board with this and I'm sure there will be more on the way!

Illustrate: Ask: “How many of you like Macaroni & Cheese?” J.L. Kraft, the creator of the Kraft Cheese Corporation, was a faithful Christian. He had given approximately 25% of his enormous income to Christian causes for many years. He once said, "The only investment I ever made which has paid consistently increasing dividends is the money I have given to the Lord." What he was saying is that the more money he gave to the Lord, the more he would make.

J.D. Rockefeller said, "I never would have been able to tithe the first million dollars I ever made if I had not tithed my first salary, which was $1.50 per week."

Challenge/Connection: In the Bible parable , we heard about servants who were trusted with a little. Because they were faithful, they were given much more. This is proven to be true in J.L. Kraft and J.D. Rockefeller’s lives. They were both extremely wealthy and successful people. At a young age, they both learned valuable lessons. When God trusts you with little, be faithful and soon he will trust you with more. We may not have much now, but if we give God what we do have, he will give us more.

Royal Rangers/Fire Institute

Royal Rangers is a mentoring ministry of the Assemblies of God who's vision is to help boys become men of God. Throughout this ministry boys are taught life skills and spend time learning the Word of God. Discipleship is at the core of the Ranger ministry.

However, many people don't know that Royal Rangers is also an effective way to mentor teenagers. Royal Rangers not only impacts boys, but also adolescent young men in a segment of their ministry called Expedition Rangers.

In order for a Royal Ranger to achieve the highest level of achievement (Gold Medal of Achievement or GMA) in the Ranger program they must complete an intense discipleship program called "The Fire Institute." This is outlined in the Capstone Project as one of the final stages on the road to the GMA

STL Thanks - Guatemala

A letter of thanks from Dave and Debbie Amsler - AGWM Missionaries to Guatemala.

Debbie and I want to personally thank the youth and leaders who invested so much into Speed the Light with their purchase of a media equipment package that was delivered by Doug and his PennDel AIM team just last week. We immediately put the equipment into use. The first program we did in a public school in Los Amates, Guatemala we saw 197 students respond to a salvation invitation.

We saw the favor of God help us get the equipment into the country. The airline waved the normal overweight and oversize fees that would have been close to $2000. Then, once in country we were only charged $2.50 customs fee that could have been several hundreds of dollars more.

It was such a joy not only to receive these precious tools, but to have them delivered by students who helped raise some of those funds and from one of the DYDs. We are so grateful to everyone who had a part in this gift to the children and youth of Guatemala.

In the last few days we presented our ministry to more than 3000 students in 10 presentations and saw well over 600 pray to receive Christ. We have nearly a dozen more programs in the next 14 days with an anticipated audience of over 4000 more students.

We are now doing the prep work for year of the child in 2011 with an emphasis we are calling “For the Love of the Children.” We expect to touch between 25,000 to 50,000 children and youth next year as well as host evangelism leadership training events around the country to 500-1000 student leaders.

As an ex-DYD it is such an honor to be on this side of Speed the Light. I wept when I received the keys to my STL truck and now I weep again thinking about the sacrifice of leaders and students who support missionaries with ministry tools to impact the world with the gospel.

Thank you for your passion for world evangelism and your investment in our work in Guatemala.

NYC Detoit 2010 Days 4 & 5

The End of an Incredible Week!

Thursday & Friday have been our last days of our trip to Detroit 2010. After some confusion about Kym's callback was cleared up (she received a "Superior" but no callback) we realized we had nothing going on Thursday so we decided to go forward with our original plan to head to Sandusky, OH & Cedar Point, voted the "Best Amusement Park in the Country". We got there around 11:30am & got back to our hotel at 1:15am. It was a full day but lots of fun. I'm sure each student will have a different story from their day at the park to share with you when they get home!

Friday morning Ryan Parker had a trombone audition with "Valley Forge" A/G College. They were very interested in him attending their school. We hope he gets a good scholarship! In the afternoon we went to Pastor Tyler's in-laws' house to go swimming in their outdoor pool. What a great day in the sun! Friday evening we attended the Celebration Service where the winners of each fine arts category are announced and some of them perform on stage. It's amazing to see such talent. It motivated us to do even better than we have in the past and really made us want to see a South Dakota teen win some year. Next year what SD teen could that be and what do we need to do now to make that happen? Phoenix 2011 could be the year but to do it we'll need many more teenagers involved in Fine Arts. It's never too early to start preparing for Fine Arts 2011!

Tomorrow we'll leave our hotel in Southfield, MI at 8am and head to Indianola, IA to sleep in the parsonage of First Assembly of God. Should be about a 10 hour drive. Pray again for our safety. God has kept us safe so far and we trust he will continue to until we get home. Baring any trouble on our trip home tomorrow, this will be our last blog for our trip. Thank you so much for your prayers and for making this trip happen for your student. God has blessed these kids with so much. Just as we helped them go on this trip, let's help them develop these gifts at home & find opportunities for them to use it in ministry. After all that's why we do trips like this!

Our first full day of Fine Arts!

Yesterday we arrived at the convention center and had our first 2 entries go back to back: Taylor Weber's (Crosswalk Community Church, SF) Vocal solo & Kym Tufte's (SF First A/G) Vocal solo. The both did a fabulous job and each received an "Excellent" scoring which is the second highest, just shy of a call back for the second round. Later in the day Kym performed her drama solo (which she wrote herself!) and a short sermon. She received an "excellent" on her drama solo and a "Superior" on her Short Sermon which means she is able to advance to the next round! Her callback performance will be sometime Thursday. We'll find out the time Wednesday night.

Kym wasn't the only one to get a "Superior". Ryan Parker (Aberdeen First A/G) did as well for his incredible trombone solo. Kristin Wileman (Aberdeen First A/G) performed her Keyboard Solo and received an "Excellent". We also ran into a couple families from Rapid City and we're able to go to one of their events to cheer them on as well. Many more events are taking place on Wednesday. So much incredible talent in our state of South Dakota! Are we using it to it's fullest year-round?

Tuesday evenings service was once again powerful. After "Press Play" led worship, Julie Khoo spoke. She is an incredible youth pastor (think Jeanne Mayo) in Malaysia. She hasn't taken a salary or honorarium for over 24 years! As she came to the pulpit God put a new message in her heart. She shared on the abuse, neglect, & drugs of her past and about the healing God brought to her life. Many responded to the alter.

Last night during our group time before bed we were talking about how much we wish others could be here with us. The experience, the memories, the ways God grows you & challenges you - one spoke up and said she was so excited to hear all these different incredible speakers - we just wish we could share it with more of SD teenagers because we know how it affects our lives. We decided next year we all are going to make a push in our churches for more to be involved in Fine Arts. This program helps you discover & develop your gifts so you can use them for God. Start thinking/planning now for Fine Arts next year and start your journey towards discovering God's calling on your life.

STL: Seeing the Benefits

As many of you know, our district has been raising money for Speed the Light this year to buy a new traveling stage and sound system for King’s Castle ministries in El Salvador. I know countless students across the state have been sacrificing and doing all they can to give. This month, we were part of the privileged group to see that hard work rewarded.

Even though some things fell through and we weren’t able to use the new system, we did get to help dedicate it. Along with Pastor Don and Terri Triplett, the Master’s Commission students and a few other teams we were able to pray over the system and dedicate it to the Lord. Everyone there is extremely excited to get to use it and for the impact it is going to make in El Salvador.

It was an honor to be there and see how our giving is going to bless this country. The system is a large stage and sound system that is hauled behind a semi. They will use it to do large evangelical outreaches and thousands of people will hear the Word of God proclaimed.
Thank you so much for your faithful giving. Even though we may not see the direct impact our giving has made in this life, we will when we get to heaven.

NYC Detroit 2010 Days 1 and 2

We made it!

We officially arrived in Detroit about 6pm last night. We had quite the journey to get here. After leaving Sioux Falls at 8am we got to Mondomin, IA & barely rolled into town due to a power issue. After a new battery we were on the road. We made it another hour and the same issue forced us to pull over in Atlantic, IA. We had the alternator replaced but later we found out that did not resolve the issue either. We then decided to try to get a different vehicle from Sioux Falls to take us the rest of the way. We called First Assembly of God in Atlantic who graciously opened their church to us for the night so we could sleep. They were definately a God send & the students were able to practice their events in the sanctuary before we went to bed. During the night Pastor Jerad from Sioux Falls drove the church bus down to us. We awoke at 4am(!) to drive the 13 hours to Detroit so we wouldn't miss the first service. Thankfully my church secretary, Bonnie Leninger, was in Detroit with her grand daughter and family for Fine Arts and she was able to register us before we got there!

We had so much help in getting to Detroit: Dave Bauchspiess who was on the phone with us all day Sunday, Jerad who drove all night to get us the bus, Eric Nickson from Omaha who drove a van part to us an hour away, First Assembly of Atlantic, and so many others. It was a blessing to know that in the face of such adversity God was still there to take care of us. It was cool to see the family of God help each other like that.

Last night's service was great! Press Play led worship and Robert Maddu shared a great message about the gift God has put inside of each of us as well as the dirt in our lives. We made it back to our hotel late and got some food and finally just relaxed. We have finally arrived and are believing for God to do great things in us and through us this week.

As i write this we are part way through day 3 and each event is going great! We have talented teenagers in South Dakota! Tonight I hope to be able to update you on results tonight and try to include a couple of pics or videos! Thanks for praying for us! We're so happy to be here!

Illustrate: Have prepared before hand something for a student to eat, something to drink, some clothes that will fit over what they are already wearing. Pick a student to come up while you talk about the text, interact with them by making them eat and drink and put the clothes on.

Talk about how everyday our AG missionaries meet people’s needs by feeding them, giving them clean water, and providing shelter and clothing.

Challenge/Connection: Draw a comparison to every time a student gives to STL they are helping feed and clothe someone. “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”

Every week you could be making a difference for the Kingdom of God through giving to STL. Not only giving to the least of these, but giving to the Lord.

What Millennials Want in Leaders (Thom Rainer)

The Millennial generation is the generation that has grabbed my heart. I know that my preference is largely related to having and loving three Millennial sons and their friends. But I know that my favoritism also stems from the attitude of hope that this generation brings.

As I have shared in other writings, my son, Jess Rainer, and I just concluded writing a book about this generation with the basic title, The Millennials. The book will be released in January 2011. Our work was based on a massive research project led by LifeWay Research, where that team asked 1,200 older Millennials dozens of questions in multiple categories. The responses were fascinating.

Who Are the Millennials?

As a reminder, the Millennials are America’s largest generation, over 78 million in number. They are slightly larger in number than the well-documented Baby Boomer generation.

The Millennials were born between 1980 and 2000, though our research included only the older portion of this generation, those born between 1980 and 1991. The study included demographic sampling that well represents the generation in total.

The Leadership Factor

Though we asked relatively few questions about leadership in our study, the intensity of their responses provided clear indication that this subject was one of great interest to many in this generation. At the conclusion of our study, we found four major leadership foci among the Millennials. We dubbed them simply “What Millennials Want in Leaders.”

1. Mentoring. This generation has great respect for those older than they are. Most of them have good relationships with their parents. They have learned from older people all their lives, and they don’t want to stop now. They want to be led and taught in their places of work, in their churches, and in their families. They particularly want to learn from couples who have had long and successful marriages. Many Millennials see such examples as heroes to emulate.

2. Gentle spirit. This category is easier to describe by what Millennials do not want in leaders. Divisive, loud, and acrimonious persons turn them off. They loathe politicians and political pundits who scream at each other. They are leaving churches to some extent because they see many Christian leaders as negative and prone to divisiveness. They are repulsed by business leaders with harsh and autocratic spirits.

3. Transparency and authenticity. I wish Jess and I had counted the number of times that Millennials used the word “real” to describe leaders they want to follow. As one Millennial told us, her generation “can smell phony and pretentiousness a mile away.” They don’t want phony; they want authentic. They don’t want pretentious; they want transparent.

4. Integrity. The Millennials are weary of politicians who don’t keep promises. They are tired of Christian leaders who fail basic moral standards. They are fed up with business leaders who are more concerned about personal gain than serving others. They want leaders with integrity.

Looking for a Few Good Leaders

The Millennial generation has much to offer. As a whole, they desire to serve others. Most of them are very family oriented. And they really want to listen and learn from others. Indeed they are looking for a few good leaders to follow. When they find them, they will follow with commitment and enthusiasm.

Our study of this generation was one of the most encouraging research projects in which I have been involved. I found great hope in the Millennials. I see great promise in many of them. And I found among them a hunger to learn from leaders they respect.

May we who have come before them be that type of leader.

The largest generation in America is watching us closely.

Are you a workaholic? (Brady Boyd)

If you are not sure how to answer that question, use this to help you make an honest evaluation of your life and ministry.

Workaholics have damaged and destroyed more families than alcoholics, especially among leaders in the local church. I meet pastors all the time who work incessantly at building God’s house while ignoring their own. All the while they justify their long hours with phrases like “this is just a season and will not always be like this” or “God has given me a big assignment”. Meanwhile, back home, their spouses and children get what is left over at the end of the day.

How do you know if you have become addicted to work and performance? What are the signs that you may be out of balance? Here’s a few to consider.

•1. You have not taken a full day off from ministry in more than a month. When was the last time you turned off your phone and refused to check work emails for an entire 24-hour cycle?

•2. You have not taken more than five days of vacation in a long time. Five days is what it takes for me to detox from the demands of ministry. I cannot even rest and regenerate until the sixth day. If all you have taken are a few days here and there, your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual tanks will eventually run dry.

•3. You feel guilty for not attending every event at the church. When was the last time something significant happened at your church and you stayed home instead of attending? I know this will be shocking news to you, but your team is capable of doing stuff well without you looking over their shoulders.

•4. You have a high turnover on your team. Workaholics demand the same performance from those around them as they do of themselves. Typically, workaholics hang around each other, like alcoholics, and enable each other to continue their destructive behaviors. All those who cannot keep up with the frenetic pace are quickly discarded.

•5. You are constantly frustrated that you are not growing fast enough. Workaholics are obsessed with numerical measurements of growth. Even when attendance is growing, it is never fast enough for workaholics. Their identity is wrapped up in performance and results, instead of the internal spiritual maturity that is most important to God.

I was once a workaholic and it almost cost me everything. I am guilty of all five symptoms listed above, but I have been restored to a balanced life that allows me to work hard at the church I love while not sacrificing my family on the altar of ministry. Be diligent at your job, using your time wisely, but remember to rest well, stop feeling guilty for the occasional nap, and spend time alone with God. Talk to Him about stuff in your heart instead of what is happening at the church building. It works, believe me.

Final Days in El Salvador

TUESDAY, JULY 20, 2010

Our Final day of ministry was a great one! We had a couple programs at schools as well as a few on the streets. During one of the school programs we did the songs and dramas in front of the entire school - kids through high school.

Our day ended with one final night campaign where Jordan K had the opportunity to preach and Casey S shared her testimony. Both did an outstanding job with their presentation.

That evening we were treated our team and the nationals to a nice meal at Tony Romas. It was a fantastic meal and a great time to laugh and talk about the week of ministry. We were blessed to have Don and Terri Triplett join us for this meal and Don took a few minutes to share about how Speed the Light makes their ministry possible.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 21, 2010

This was our free day. We started the day off with a dedication of the STL Mobile Evangelism Unit at the Castle. It was great to see it all set up and hear the sound coming from the speakers. This is going to be one great tool for reaching souls in El Salvador. We are so glad to be a part of raising the funds for this. Thanks to the students from South Dakota, North Dakota, and Alaska for making this a reality.

After the dedication we headed in to San Salvador for the gringo (artisan) market. We spent about 45 minutes shopping and found bracelets, machetes, football jerseys, coffee, and more. Then we were off to the beach!

We didn't spend much time in the water because the rocks covered the beach and made balance and walking a bit painful and unsteady. However we did enjoy the salt water pools, the amazing lunch, water slide, and fresh water pool. Every person had their own hammock in the shade - a welcome change from the pace of our week of ministry.

We've had a great week and are looking forward to coming home to see family and friends.

We anticipate another team coming next year - possibly with a focus on basketball camp style outreaches. We will see how the Lord leads.

Monday Ministry

MONDAY, JULY 19, 2010

We had a pleasant surprise when we met up with our host pastor this morning. We had planned on doing street programs as we had done every other day, however he told us we had the opportunity to go to a local High School. Though some people in government were saying no Christian groups were allowed into the schools, this principal opened the doors to us.

When we arrived at the public school we found the kids on their "recess" (about a 45 minute break between classes). They were all out in the common area outside and several were playing volleyball. After watching for a few minutes we asked if we could play and they were excited to accommodate.

We played volleyball with them for quite some time (they have different rules - ie: no 3 hit limit) after which the English teacher asked if we could play basketball with some of their guys. We were happy to accommodate. The sports interaction helped to build a relational bridge with the students and was of course fun at the same time.

Our team divided into three groups and went into three separate rooms. This allowed for a little closer interaction and dialogue with the students. We talked about life in the US and allowed them to ask questions. They wanted to know what snow felt like. They were also interested to know what we did at school if we weren't allowed a "recess" between our classes as they have.

We found that our cultures are quite the same. We all like sports and music. Some like school and some don't. Most of us use our phones for texting, and just like us, they get in trouble for texting in school too.

Another similarity in our cultures is that teenagers must make choices every day. These choices affect us and the people around us. As we talked about these choices we told the kids that the most important choice we will make in our life is if we will follow Jesus Christ. It is not about what church they go to, but if they have made Jesus the Lord of their life. We told them that every one of us had already chosen to follow Christ with our lives and invited them to do the same. In almost every classroom when we asked for a show of hands of those who wanted to follow Christ we had a strong response.

The pastor was very pleased with the progress and connections our team made. The English teacher said of all the groups he's had come into his class over the years, he felt ours was the best.

Total, we were in front of 8 different classes. We played volleyball, basketball, boys "soccer" and girls "soccer."

After lasagna for supper most of the team joined at the pool for some fun games and our ever popular synchronized diving.

We look forward to having a strong last day of ministry on Tuesday.

The Report Is In

I just received the Jan-June BGMC Giving report and I'm excited to see we are ahead of our total compared to last year over $31,000. However, I don't want to get into a comfortable state that BGMC will just continue on without additional creativity and passion from you - the leader.

Please consider the following ideas to help your kids continue to make a difference for BGMC.

Have a decorate your buddy contest - have each kid come on Sunday with their barrel full and decorated. Have a contest and award for the heaviest (only money inside, and whatever else outside).

Help get pastors and business men at our fundraising events
- Pierre Pheasant Hunt (flyer) in September
- Mexico Deep Sea Fishing Trip (flyer) in January 2011

Once you arrive at the event location all of your expenses and activities are covered provided you make a commitment to raise/contribute funds to BGMC over the next few weeks. The projects for the Pheasant Hunt start at $1,200 and in Mexico they begin at $5,000.

We are working on finalizing our list for both of these events now - please email me the names of pastors and business men who have confirmed.

Set your own faith goal.
- Christie and I are setting a faith goal for BGMC and invite you to join with us to lead your kids in that way.
- When you make a goal you speak about BGMC with more passion and understanding because you know what the kids are experiencing as well.

Do something insane!
- We've seen people shave heads (Brian Anderson in Hill City)
- Swallow Gold Fish (Ashley Anderson)
- Sky Dive (in other districts)
- Take the Polar Plunge (me next Feb if we raise the money)
- Live on top of billboards or buildings (in other districts)

Would you be willing to look foolish and lay it all on the line to raise some money for missions?

Talk with your pastor about a Sunday offering.
Set up a date now for later in November/December to invite the adults to match what the kids have raised and given throughout the year.

Be creative.
We serve a creative God. I know he'll give you your own ideas to make a difference for BGMC!

Saturday/Sunday Ministry

SATURDAY/SUNDAY JULY 17/18, 2010

Wow! Two amazing days of ministry. We knew these would be long days because we are having night "campaigns" in addition to our normal programs so we were ready for the work and approached it with anticipation.

We started the day off with two programs. During one of them we had some unexpected guests as we were inviting the kids. (see photo) That made dancing in the streets a bit fun because some of the bulls left "deposits" but the program was great in spite of that.

After our afternoon program we made a quick stop at a Pupusaria where all the AIMers had their fill of El Salvador's staple food - Pupusas. I had a chance to help make some, but unfortunately they stuck to my fingers and looked quite misshapen. They tasted fine though.

Pastor David preached during the miracle campaign and shared how we must have Hope in Christ! Many people heard the message and we were able to pray for several children and adults.

Sunday morning was their "Big Day." A day when all of the Castle churches gather for one large service together. The focus of this service was on reaching the youth and again the theme was "Hope in Christ." Our team had a great opportunity to pray with many people and we know God was moving in their lives.

Lunch was served at Pollo Compero - a nice break from ham and cheese sandwiches.

For our evening campaign we returned to Wasapa at the invitation of the Mayor to play a basket ball game with the local team. The game was high energy and many of the towns people came to watch. We had five teens and Pastor David on our team, they had nine players most of who were over 20 years old and TALL. The first few minutes of the game didn't look so good for our team, but by the half we were still in it.

During half time we did a drama and Pastor David shared again about Hope in Christ. Again we had the chance to pray with many people and help them find Hope in Christ.

The second half of the game was much better and with one minute to go we were ahead by 2 points. Those last 60 seconds didn't end so well... we ended up losing by 2.

Both were great days and we met some amazing people. Here's a few stories of kids who touched my heart.

Joshua (pictured below) is a 13 year old boy who looks like he's about 9. He's had some physical and mental disabilities and as a result is in the second grade. Joshua showed up at two different programs. Though he may not be doing well in school, he still understands the love of God! It was an honor to share God's love with him.

Wendy (pictured below) is about a 9 year old girl who has been raised in Kings Castle ministry. She went with us to a few programs. I was inspired by her boldness to approach complete strangers and invite them to the street programs. Wendy recently ran 18 kilometers in her regular street shoes to raise money for her kids ministry. She was so upbeat and positive. A true inspiration. As we were leaving our final program with her she gave me a little wallet and bracelet she had made.

STL: TEN

On 10/10/10 the Assemblies of God youth hope to make history with the largest single-day offering for Speed the Light.

In South Dakota we want to join the movement and make TEN something for the history books here too. We are looking for 100 students who will set a $1,000 FAITH GOAL to be delivered on Sunday October 10th for Speed the Light.

I believe there are students across South Dakota waiting to be challenged. Wanting to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Hoping to be a part of a movement making an eternal change. Speed the Light and TEN might be just what they are looking for!

Help challenge your students to set some crazy goals and then watch God bring in the overflow for their life. We've seen it before - let's see it again!

We have a goal of $120,000.00 this year! Let's set the bar and lead the way.

Friday Ministry

FRIDAY JULY 16, 2010

This morning we arrived at our first ministry location ready to minister in a school only to find that the government just passed a law that schools were not allowed to have religious assemblies during school time. We prayed that God would move in spite of this ruling and some way open the door for us to reach the school children.

As we began our first program with about 30 children. Midway through our second song we began seeing uniformed children walking by. A few leaders invited them over and many stayed for the presentation and received Christ as their Savior.

This was the first miracle of the day. God didn't open the school for us to enter, instead, He brought the students to us.

After lunch we loaded the bus for our third program of the day. As the driver attempted to start the bus we heard a clicking noise. The starter was not working. As the driver and some of the El Salvador men started troubleshooting our team gathered and asked God to work a miracle.

Within minutes the bus started and we were off for our third of four programs for the day.

We ministered in a city called Wasopa (spelled something like that) in some new locations where the church was hoping to connect with some children to start another outreach location. These programs were successful today!

Our day ended by stopping at a local shop for chocobananos. These frozen treats are a standard treat of the kids in El Salvador. We figured for $0.10 each we could splurge and treat the entire team. :) It was a great treat.

Supper included steak, tortillas, rice, and beans. A favorite for sure.

If the rain/lightning stops we'll be taking another dip in the pool! :)
